Wiki Reader App Reviews

Good, for the first search.

This is a great application, if you only plan on making one search. As soon as youve made your first search and you click on the search bar again it crashes…EVERY TIME!!! Please fix. This happens in both full-screen and "normal" views. Mac OSX Lion, 2011 Macbook Air. Once fixed Ill give it an easy 4 stars.

Current Version unstable

Like another reviewer has stated as soon as you use the search function the first time, it crashes on every subsequent search. Need to issue an update ASAP or refund all purchases. This was on Lion with a 2011 macbook air

Lion Macbook Pro is OK

On my MacBook Pro it is running well. I contacted the developer because of a problem in version 1.0 and got a answer within one houre. Thanks!!!

This app force to open a unknow website after launched

Do not install this app!

Awful, Unreadable.

The text is too small to read comfortably, and there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO to change the size. If youre going to use the worder reader in the name of the software, Id recommend thinking carefully about readability.

too bad

Font is very small. Russian wiki is not working in this app.

Totally doesn

Well, for some unknown reasons, I cant run this app on my macbook pro.(maybe because my pro is the lion system)It will automatically quit every time. There might be some unfixed bugs, I hope they can be fixed asap. STILL CRASH EVEN IF THE LASTED VERSION!! Although bugs fixed, still CRASH EVERY TIME!!

Great App

The app is great for searching articles. The things it does, it does nicely. Thanks for fixing the bugs that fast.

Perfect

All bugs are fixed :-) Thanks

Lays out wikipedia nicely, but where are the bookmarks

As nice as the layout is, Id rather use my browser since I can bookmark pages which is especially critical if Im doing research and want to be able to get back to a specific page that Id gotten to by clicking links. Right now, its good for casual browsing but not serious research. And if thats what you want to do, I recommend this app but if youre doing and real research, use your browser. ~ Rob

Russia language

does not open the article with a Russian name

Very Nice

This app is really simple and useful. I like the full-screen feature, but the app needs a button or a multi-touch gesture to increase the font size. Sometimes while searching, clicking on the search results doesnt work.

Nice, smooth - I like it!

First impressions: Seems to work really nicely. The search is fast, the rendering is good, you can change the font size to suit you. Seems to load faster than a browser. I like the ability to separate out Wikipedia from the browser in a special interface because its always available.

Cannot zoom in using the track pad

Not useful for me.

Works Great

I cant give it five stars because it lacks some basic features such as customizing the toolbar. Works well though

Terrible, 1 star!

The general concept of this application is a good one, but it doesnt work. I cannot even find an article. The search bars are completely defunct. The only links that work are the ones that link to their paid products. If I was apple I would have this removed from the app store. Broken app!

Working again

This is a nice little app. Instead of a dev gouging for a simple interface for Wikipedia -- an intentionally free encyclopedia, mind you -- here is someone graciously giving away one, and maintaining it. Thank you, Herr Prang.

Had Potential

UPDATE: July 12 - After finally being updated, this program still is a disappointment. The default font size has been increased from 12 to 15. Thats it. It still crashes when it encounters midi files or scripts in a page. When this happens, the only way to get the app working again is to delete and reinstall. There is still no tabbed browsing despite the screen shots shown above. The sidebar is still fixed. There is still absolutely no support from the developer. In short, nothing has changed. UPDATE: This program has now stopped working completely. It starts, but will not search or access Wiki at all. There is absolutely no support from the developer, nor has there been an update in over a year. Positives for this app are that it includes support for Lions full screen mode, and it offers page title options while a search is typed in the search box. The picture viewer also is a nice convenience. Negatives are numerous, however: 1. Despite the screenshot in the App Store, this program does not offer tabbed browsing of any kind. The contextual menu in the articles offers an option to open a link in a new window, but this does absolutely nothing. The only way to have two or more articles open at the same time is to open a new window from the File menu. 2. The default font size (12) is readable, but quite small. Increasing the font size means that the window will not actually scroll down to the bottom of the page. 3. While a nice feature, the picture viewer crashes if it encounters scripts on a page for multimedia like WAV or midi files. 4. The history in the left side bar is a convienient way to backrack pages without csrolling one at a time with the back button, however there is no way to clear the history at all. Neither does the history cache reset when the app is closed. 5. The side bar which contains the search function and the history list can not be hidden, closed or minimized. Considering how small 12 point font looks in the window, it seems as though Wiki Reader is simply copying a page from Wikipedia and displaying it in a window other than a web browser. If the side bar could be switched off at will, the image would be larger and the text more readable. Overall, Wiki Reader has potential to be a great utility. But to do so, it should be uprgaded to interact more as a web browser and less as a PDF viewer.

No search bar

This app used to work fine. But the search bar has disappeared. You cant typr in anything anywhere to get search results. Please fix, would easily be a 5 star rating otherwise.

Great idea, horrible implementation

Does not perform search, crashes after you insist on performing a search.
